Massachusetts

Moni and me came out to see Jon Michael and his bride Jen in Buzzard's Bay/Bourne (eastern tip of Cape Cod) for a few days between CHRISTmas and New Years Eve. We hung out and watched football, played video games (kinetic and lego star wars on the xbox 360), went sightseeing for lots of pictures, ate at the Brazillian Barbecue, and got a tour of the 6th Space Warning Squadron where Jon works. God bless those soldiers!

Touchdown, Detroit Lions!

Honolulu blue and silver, for this special edition of this weblog. The Lions took it to the Buccaneers to-day in sunny Florida for their first road win in about 1100 days or so, to the delight of the Detroit faithful. The Lions tied the game as time expired in the fourth quarter to force overtime and then scored a another .three-pointer via the foot of Dave Rayner to win it. Calvin had 10 receptions for cryin out loud!
Woody and Buzz are fighting under the car as Andy drives off to Pizza Planet.
The Survivor Finale is tonight, I really can't wait.
One of our seniors had a public recital to-day on the fiddle in Beulah; wow, made the hairs on my arm stand up and gave me tingles all over. Made my soul smile.

First Snow Day

Sunday night and they already have called school tomorrow for over 130 districts here in northern Michigan....pretty nifty storm: lots of snow and high winds, now wrap-around lake effect snow with continued high winds, and tomorrow temps dropping dangerously low.

Fucking sick of getting porn spams from 'friends' on Facebook, ready to be done with that medium really quick...

Lions won, God is merciful.

Snowy Saturday

Here comes the storm of the year, with the Low centered in northern illinois. Raining in Detroit and snowing pretty good up here in beautiful Bear Lake. Roads were dry going down to Manistee at about 5:00 but there was already inches and hard to see coming out of mass a couple hours later. Now, i'm listening to annie lennox and her winter wonderland.

REal slow connection tonight... and the directv is gone...listening to vince giraldi christmas time is here.

Good talk with soul-sistah nancy to-day...i just love her to death. Praying for the whole crew down there...

Love my friends in Livingston County: the rain WILL turn to snow...promise!

Early December

Twas the first of December and all around here
The snow was a-fallin, so I drank a beer.

So much in my mind and i have a hard time being patient enough with myself to type it all out...

Friends and Family who i don't say it to enough: I love you

First time I've seen people quit on Survivor...didn't even have a immunity challenge. Just council and the two quitters left...Jeff was like "get out" and "you wanna go, go"

On the first day of OSU week, 'Nard Dog said to me...

I'm really blest, abundantly, bigly, muchly, tonsly, grandly, ginormously.
My sister and her family were in the neighbourhood last week for a hunt and I got to spend some time with them.
I tried a new recipe i saw on "5 Minute Fix" and it was ok. (My adulterations dropped it down to the ok range, but i really like mushrooms!)
MSU pulled out another victory improbably yestreday.
I'm digging the new algebra books the kids are using now.
I'm really looking forward to Michigan crushing the Buckeyes on Saturday.

I'm really looking forward to our Thanksgiving  on Thursday.

LIfe is a highway...

Just between you and me, I really look forward to Wednesday nights and CBS Survivor at 8 pm Eastern time. Damn! It's always good. It never fails to excite and ignite!
This arrogant Brenda chick was working with this arrogant Sash (Sash? "Oh honey, look, he looks just like your great uncle Window, let's call him Sash!") male and tonight, their little comradarie had a little shakeup cuz Brenda was voted off.
I didn't expect this. BUT, you gotta remember that CBS only shows us bits and pieces of what actually takes place during any 3-day period. These folks have cameras on them all day every day. There's got to be alot of boring footage that doesn't make the 60 minute weekly show: "So Sash, have you been regular out here in the fuckin jungle?" "Of course, my alliance partner Brenda and I only eat the most fibrous roots available." "Oh, good for you, bitch; btw, you've got a stupid name and I'm writing your name down tomorrow night!"
7-4 Wings with about 3 minutes left in Detroit...wish i was with my buddy watchin thisssss....

Saturday thoughts...

Wisconsin, MSU, Iowa, and OSU all with one loss in the big ten; so i'm rooting for Indiana, Northwestern, and Penn State to-day! Indiana showed promise early then folded, ... um - eher....... completely to Wisconsin. Penn State will still get to beat OSU startin at 3:30, but Northwestern... Oh, Northwestern...thank you and thank your what a great game at home in Evansville for all your peeps!!!!!

So, the only team to beat State has lost twice now. I don't know exactly what that means nationally but i was pretty stinkin excited.

Erin Andrews just interviewed Jim Tressell (my little brother's idol!!) and he was politically correct as ever.
Go JoPa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

200th Post to the Weblog...

The Grady catch, about four minutes left in the first quarter, i think will be one to remember. Score followed two plays later and I think that was a confidence builder for the offense. That Kovacs kid they got on defense tried to walk on, got hurt, had surgery, worked out to rehab after, then tried again to walk on and made it...a ton of tackles against notredame last week and has earned my respect let me tell you ...ok, then in the second quarter, the missed fg, the Stonum big screen and the Stonum td, the ripoff by Kovacs...lots of big mo going into halftime.

Glory to God in the highest!!!

Long day, first day of school; I procrastinate, usually, and am trying to finish up each course syllabus and make copies for 145 kids tomorrow. Most convenient printer down for the count for the last couple of days so sending tons of copies to second choice printer. Tech guru walks in and says don't send there (after almost all had been sent there) cuz it's not working. Third choice is in the main office and for some reason we don't have that option at our disposal right now. Fourth choice is the "counselors copier" which i've never sent documents to but seemed like it was gonna hafta be. Sent just one copy of one syllabus (just to see if it was working), walked down there and see through the glass the copy but can't get in the locked office. Ask around, it's a special key that none of the masters will get into. K. Lets just print a copy of each to my little lexmark inkjet (24 bucks at Save-More-Do)...so i'm walking back to the room, sit down, unlock the keyboard, and just as i'm sending this document yet again to another printer, youtube plays "What a Friend we have in Jesus" on the pipe organ just for me.
Thank you, God, I love You, too.

Bonderman-Greinke

Royals got four early and Detroit finally scored four in the 7th to tie it; then Raburn sent one out in the 8th to put the Detroiters up 5-4. Kelly singled with two out. I'm listening to Flogging Molly radio on Slacker.com. There's so much music i really love. Bad Religion and Social Distortion have a great sound but i don't know what their music is all about. Love the chord progressions with both groups. The Pogues, The Queers,
Talked to my brother for a while tonight; it had been so long. He gets distant and doesn't answer his phone or reply to texts and we all just say oh he must be busy so it was really good to hear from him.
Love you baby

First Friday of September

Summer finished up well here in northern lower Michigan: hot and humid with no rain throughout August and now on the 3rd of September, we are experiencing coooler temps and high winds and a bunch of rain {Devo Gates of Steel} and high wind advisories up here and such

Went to two Tiger games the week after we went to Charles Mears State Park and the following week we decided to go back one last time before I had to leave time. Had a great time in Pentwater with the pup but it was HOT! God be praised we found a shady site for the coleman tent and the sleep was quite comfortable. At some point in the night we got up for a trip to the bathroom and as we returned we found our dog following us (lol .... NOOOOOOOOOOOO lol !!!!)
...she got out because of this huge rip in the screen door of the tent so we had to retire it (properly) at the end of our stay. sad, we had it for ten years (there were years honestly that it didn't get pulled out of the garage at all but when it was called into duty, it performed wonderfully.
Been up at school half-assed trying to get ready for tuesday...my heart is elsewhere i must admit. I look forward to seeing the kids and the high fives and laughs and all but the math's the kids have to know now (according to our great State) is difficult and rigorous and alot of the kids do not absolutely need it for anything past the final exam...i don't get it. I'm not complaining, i just don't understand. Mine is not to question why, mine is but to do or ...
I've been slacking at typing in this forum due to my facebook fascination I confess. There is much less feedback here but I can ramble as is my wont as often as is my wont.
Saw The Expendables and it was OK. Thought for sure dolf lungrun was gonna kill jet li but none of the good guys died....too bad it's not like that really...
God is love.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen!!!!

Best 3 hour away trip ever...

So monday morning i needed some steroids for the poinson ivy i had between my toes (among other places); got the rx and the shot and we decided we needed another camping trip so we packed up and headed west to the big lake yet again.
Only one speedway stop on the way to fill up and we landed at Silver Lake state park after examining Yogi Bear and two other campgrounds right there. The dunes are pretty but we did not indulge in them...we tried to listen to the Tigers with Sierra on the shore of Silver Lake while the sun set and the wind blew. A wonderfully chilly night and all three of us slept well after hot dogs on the fire. A glorious morning but we couldn't get our same campsite so we took a leap of faith ("..take a leap of faith. let us return back as young men together".) and headed north to Pentwater. Drove around the lake and found the Charls Mears State Park. The nice young man at the booth gave us the sites currently vacant and my bride picked #1 and so it was too be! Spent the afternoon on the beach and Sierra got many complements...walked out on the pier and got pizza and headed back to camp for the sunset and the tiger game. my sugar is getting low and i need to eat...more later

August 2010

Click on the photo, you'll be taken to the Picassa album of our trip to Leelanau County in the new PT Cruiser...

Hot August Nights

Spent much of the last week camping at the tip of the Leelanau penninsula and enjoying that part of the state for the first time. Nice area, want to go back and explore more. Props to Tom's in Northport which sold us every type of supply we could ever need at a reasonable price. Sierra the Malamute went and enjoyed herself thoroughly, or so she said. She loved the Big Lake sandy beach at Empire and dug herself in when it was time to rest from all the lake romping.
Reading Prince Caspian and then The Dawn Treader in anticipation of the new movie coming out this Christmas.
Watched Inception again and finally realized the made up guy at the beginning and end of the movie was the guy who wanted Cobb to plant the idea in the mind of his competitor. Note to self: you don't need that free popcorn refill.
Chainsawed some trees yestreday into firewood.
Life's good.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

and then it's 3 am and i'm on the street corner wearin my leather

and this guy comes up and hes' like 'hey punk' and i'm like yeah whatever...

Can't keep getting so pissed about the Tigers. Either gotta get a different team or ... just not get so pissed :-).

The Warriors. Yes, the best film of all time.

For fuck sake, they actually market that kinda shit... people pay to see that?!?!??!

Sorry.

Salt was good, though, action-packed and left us hanging on at the end for a sequil!!

...Alpha Dog had a sad ending but the dialogue was keen and the action acute.

...Public Enemies about Dillinger was super good...I had a hard time keeping track of who was who (all those '30s white guys look alike) but I still liked it.

...watching the trailer for Nickolas Cage in the 9/11 movie...looks real good... but I don't know if I can watch that type of stuff. They show the shadow of the plane going across some buildings ... World Trade Center: A Story of Courage and Survival...brings back ... yeah.

Tom Cruise action dramas are the best. MI III on now.

Change my heart oh God...

Change my heart Oh God, make it ever true,
Change my heart Oh God, may I be like You.

You are the Potter, I am the clay;
Mold me and make me, this is what I pray.

Jesus Oh Jesus, come and fill your lambs,
Jesus oh Jesus, come and fill your lambs.

Oh let the Son of God enfold you with his spirit and his love
Let him fill your heart and satisfy your soul
Oh let him have the things that hold you and his spirit like a dove
Will descend upon your life and make you whole...

Jesus oh Jesus, come and fill your lambs,
Jesus oh Jesus, come and fill your lambs.

Oh, not tonight, Bishop; not tonight.

Watched Copout with Bruce Willis and it was kind of stinky. He does a great job in an action-drama being funny once in a while. I thought it was terrible him in a comedy trying to be action-dramatic. That's all on that one. Defendor was quite good, with Woody Harrelson playing a self-proclaimed super hero trying to right the wrongs in his city.
To Paris with Love was just OK; I was looking forward to John Travolta being bald with very black facial hair killin glots of bad guys but I still have a hard time in these shootemup films when there's literally tons of lead flying around and every badguy gets offed but the good guys don't get a scratch. Reminded me of Rambo II and Commando in that way.
Lots of rain yestreday and cloudy to-day with cooler comfortable temps. They were predicting mid-90s in Detroit with a full portion of humidity

Summer School is punishment

I'm making these kids watch Discovery Education video on graphing lines, the Standard Deviants doing geometry, and some cat on youtube doing linear graphing who was wayyyy too enthusiastic.

Eye appointment at 1:00 today then the West Michigan Rebels play in Cadillac - i think i'll catch this game at 6:00.

Please be advised:

The Hight School Content Expectations (HSCE) are written in language more applicable to assessment, the Common Core State Standards are written from an instructional standpoint. Both provide a definition of college- and career-readiness, articulating what students should know/understand and be able to do to be prepared for entry-level college courses and career training programs.

Ooooh yeah!!!

Have I made it clear?!? LIFE'S GOOD!!!!!

Sweety is going down to Detroit to buy a purple PT Cruiser. She called as she was just heading out and told me her prepaid phone wouldn't let her add the minutes from the card she just had bought. I called her back and as she was giving me the number for the minutes, we got dropped. I proceded to strap myself into Command Centre #2 and tried to get her some minutes. A quick call to her number did not verify that the transaction took place, but she could have just not heard the phone if it did!
Got to see my parents up here a couple times while they were on vacation. They really wanted to see my Command Centre to-day so I took them on a tour.
Have to get home to water the flowers and feed the dog.
Life's good!

House-sitting for my landlord...

he's gone for a week and I have several reponsibilities whatsoever: dog (daily feed and water, outside at appropriate times, don't let him run away [as is his wont]); fish (a small pinch of food daily - this i can handle); flowers (daily water); houseplants (here's where it gets tricky: every other day for most, the palms don't get none, the banana is daily and the ... one of them gets watered once during the week...OH, God is watering for me outside...YEAH!!!). That's it really. His sister already came and took his jeep for a road trip and garbage day is wednesday i think.

Thursday after school I drove down to see my bride and we went out for some great artichoke dip at a local eatery. On Friday we breakfasted together and she worked all day so I saw Sorcerer's Apprentice first. It was cute but the absolute continuing dorky-ness of the physics-loving hero got kinda old. Great ending; once again the Disney writers got me to tear up (a bit).
Played Galaga while waiting for Inception with Leonardo. I think he's a pretty good actor; this storyline was hard for my peabrain to follow. I need to see it several more timessses yess, preciousssss. Dream within a dream and then another within still yet! Didn't quite get the ending either but don't explain it to mee, i've got alot of time to kill this week :-)
Tigers lost after the break on Friday and then twice on Saturday; the late game went into extra innings and finished late...musta been a walk-off hit or walk or somethin...late, as it were.
Seriously thankful for the rain; it had been soo hot and humid for so long. To everything there is a season. Last summer up here it was 'cold and rainy'; 'what summer?!?' was the response to my how wuz your summer question most often...so we can't (and won't!) complain about the heat; we dam well won't complain about the cold in January I tellee.

The Book of Eli

Haven't seen anything with Denzel that I didn't really like - this movie is good. The only thing I'd change is the large amount of whispering the characters do at some points which caused me to turn the volume wayyyyy up...then when a dramatic chord would strike, it'd be damn loud!

Is that from your book? No, it's a - Johnny Cash, Live at Folsom Prison.

I don't think this one will be a favourite, though; unless I find some buddies to share lines with. Gary Oldman plays another villain and plays this one well.

Another hot sunny day here in northwestern lower Michigan so I went to the beach after work. Lots of families there enjoying the glorious summer on the Big Lake with small waves but the water was pristinely clear (is that a word?). I have sand in every crevasse (i KNOW that's a word).

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

No, no, no, ... I said DART gun!

Friday hung out with my Sweetie for the day and she worked in the evening then Saturday she worked all day so I went to the Cinema and had a great day! Started with The Three Dimensional Last Airbender. Kind of a neat story but the dialogue was just weak. But, we are definitely left hanging and poised for a sequil.
From there to Predators...same story as Arnold's but this time more prey and more predators. Kind of a neat ending...

The afternoon finale was Despicable Me and I thought it was quite cute. Another neat story, wholesome, nice, picnicky with noodle salad type of film. Snuck home and grilled some chicken on the George Formans enroute to Dave's Bigass Roughage and Produce Collection, which was grand, btw.
Sunday to downtown for a day game at the Park. We sought first some good old Detroit home cooking breakfast type fare. When this did not materialize, we said Oh heck yeah and settle for American Coney Island. Oh heck yeah what a breakfast!!!
Cheli's let us in at 10:30 and we were ready for a cold one (it being quite a warm one outside already) but we couldn't get bubble until noon, remember? So we soaked a few napkins with our perspiration and headed around the park to see if the in-house establishments were open...no such luck. The exercise was good though; my liberally applied coppertone spf4 was great for the arms and neck, the tops of my little feet, however, began to suffer. Gates didn't open until about 11:30 so we chatted with folks while security searched our bags (no gatorade, juice, or soda, just water in clear containers! And who's gonna win?!?!), and when it was time to go in, we went in. Bought a scorecard as is my wont and found our seats behind first base, with no shade for my feets. That's ok, we walked around the park a couple times sucking down cold whatever type of beers and made smalltalk with some fans. Oliver gave up two early and then a couple more before Bonine came in and gave up a couple more...i remember Inge ending the inning with a strikeout like five or six times (although the FSD replay later that night would not confirm this). Oliver just needs to get the ball over the plate and trust his stuff...way too many 3-2 counts and way too many first pitchs off the plate. Carl Pavano was brilliant through 7 for the Twins, who jumped up to 3 games out of first place in the AL Central with the victory.

Cheered on Miggy last night in the Derby but Big Papi took the prize. Tonight we root for the American League.

Come, Holy Spirit,

and fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.

Oh God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructs the hearts of the faithful, grant that by that same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolations.

Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.

Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

Sometimes I try so hard to be funny that I hurt people...

Went to Family Video and they didn't have movies I wanted so I improvised, overcame, adapted and rented Zombieland. I give it a good rating, which is as high as you can get for a movie with such content, IMAO. There was much funniness (funny-ness) and the violence was zombie-movie violence, not really real like War of the Worlds which scared the crap out of me.

To infinity... and beyond!

K...looking for a job still... sent another couple letters out to-day. Life is an adventure, is it not?

i knew it!!!

Rio Bravo, 1959, with Dean Martin, John Wayne, Walter Brennan, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickenson is one of my top five all time films. So, on the free weekend examination period of some old movie station, there's this movie with John Wayne and Walter Brennan yestreday. I watch and really start to like the movie, the acting and dialogue were convincing...i don't know, it was in black and white but it just seemed ... good. (I've seen John Wayne in films where his acting skills, and script make me not want to watch.)
So after several large slices of pizza, I had to finally get off the recliner and fish around for the remote, to hit the guide button, and then the info button, to find out what this picture was called. Red River. Ok, so, just now I go to IMDB and search it and the first name I see is Howard Hawks, THE Howard Hawks, who also directed Sargent York and... Rio Bravo!! I couldn't be more pleased, right now, with my own bit of detective work.

that tender under the arm part between the back and the front

I got to the public beach at 9:00 yestreday just to see the Big Lake and then decide if i wanted to stay or not. It was sunny with a nice southerly breeze so i took my shirt off and sat down. No one was there, save for some folks walking south, way south - my quiet time was good and comtemplative for a short while. Folks started showing up and my books that I thought were in the truck were in my room five short miles away. But! would i have a parking space when I got back?!?!? '

I took the risk. Zip zip and i was home, grabbed my Bryson, Old School Primer book, my Super Dell Sudoku, a blue fine point gel-grip pen, Coppertone SFP 4, and a couple diet mountain dews. Found a spot to park and i had left my towell and hat on the sand (to mark my territory, no?) so i settled back in. The waves were getting bigger and the crowd was spilling over the public beach area. Folks who walk right by you real fast on the beach when they really don't need to piss me off. Jumped in the water several times, each time the waves were bigger and the undertow more forceful. Even though the temps were in the 90s with high humidity, less and less folks were in the water because of this. Those were the biggest waves I've ever seen at Pierport...and I've been going there since we were little tykes.

I made one more trip out to get some more diet mountain dew; by five of the clock, post meridian, there were enough of the Deliverance extended family so close to me that I decided enough was enough for the day. 9 to 5 the way it should be, hallelujah! Also, the sides of my torso began to feel very hot. They still are the day after, despite a hot shower (to suck all the heat out, you know) and a liberal application of Dollar General's finest cocobutter lotion.

Life is good!

Kimmy, stay focussed

Blest be God forever! What a glorious morning: the sun pops up at around sixish, the temps are perfectly cool and sleepable. We've been having sunny and mid 80s which is perfect in my humble opinion.

You can't make people be what you want them to be...or even what you think you want them to be.

To-day's tasks:
Clean room
pack up for the drive south
check on unemployment benefits
get mail/do my banking (in town)

When people say they didn't get your text, how often is it true?

shift on the comma, then 3

Rio Bravo is on tonight; AMC, i think.
One of my favourite movies but I'm quite certain that, in order to save time, the folks are running this film at a rate higher than is normal. The voices are higher pitched, and i'm finding it hard to watch and not smile.
I'm on a happy high right now.

,,, blessed is the Fruit of your womb, Jesus.

bought a microphone from the yard sale down the street. they said it was a buck. then i noticed the fray in the chord. i said do you have any electrical tape, she's like 'dunno but you can look in the garage.' found some and taped it up and it works. so i'm strumming some green day chords and i plug in the mic to the guitar amp and hang it from a hammock frame and sing real loud into it and golly it was fun.
landlord comes home and he's like 'where'd you get the microphone?' and i'm like at the garage sale and he's like, I hate to tell you but that's my daughter's. I'm like it's all good. mlia

Yes, it's amazing

amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me
i once was lost, but now I'm found. was blind, but now i see.

the LORD has promised good to me, his word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures

through many dangers, toils, and snares i have already come
twas grace that brought me save thus far and grace will lead me home

when we've been there ten-thousand years, bright shining as the sun
we've no less days to sing God's praise, then when we first begun.

Amazing Grace
how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind, but now I see.

Attitude of Gratitude

So thankful I am this day, to-day,
For all the folks who come my way
To just say hi or chit or chat
To talk and hear about this and that

So nice it is when folks take time
to mention something they think fine
In what i've done or what i did
Or how i helped their teenage kid.

I'm thankful for, on this fine day
A job to work, and time to play
time to write and time to cheer,
time to read, time to drink beer.

Tigers at Twins in 10 minutes and wow JZ went down hard yestreday. More later...

Muggy Saturday

Here I sit in the Hamburg Township Library, at Internet Station #2 (NOT FILTERED), as I type. The air is super-conditioned in this building; I may well have a stop back at about 4:30 before they close...

Amidst all the talk regarding the Lions mini-camp brawl yestreday, one question still nags at my inner sphincter regions: who's fighting whom? Offense-defense? Black-white? Linemen-backs? Aren't they supposed to be a TEAM, playing a game against other like-minded individuals? What the heck? So Schwartz gave them all these big fines - hoopydo.

Porcello down with Toledo threw eight innings of one-hit ball last night. Rookie Oliver taking his place did well against the Braves but the bats never really got going (again).

I'm smelling some sort of food right now...

Pork sirloins on the grill tonight, breaded with dried mushrooms, asparagus, and taters...Tigers at 4:36.8, have to water the flowers by the house, screw some landscape timbers together, and buy a pellet gun for the squirrels who get in the bird feeders...

oh what fun it is to shop at the Wal-Mart nearest you...

'tis easy for me to spend lots of money there...they have so much I need. Groceries, kitchen stuff, beer, tools, dogfood, bathroom needs, ... omg yes they have it all.
A cool morning in Lakeland but it's warming up quickly. Tigers at Braves tonight 7:35 (is that a ted turner time?) after a huge win over the Mets last night. Valverde perfect again, Zoomaya not perfect but got them through the 8th, bats came alive early and Galaraga got the win (no one, anywhere, deserves a win more than he. he's my new hero. the Photo is down a couple of posts.)

Get to go buy some bird seed from the nice hardware and then what to do with the rest of the day??? Maybe make a deck down at the lake or something...

6500 new certified teachers in Michigan last year, less than 2000 of them landed a job in the State.

Glorious morning in Onekama...

and the summer scholars are hard at work doing whatever it is they do...

Looked like Bonderman had some good stuff last night against the Mets but there was no offense to back him and it ended up 5-nuttin.

S'posed to be nice to-day

What a blessed day!

Got to see my little sister, her husband, and the younger four of their six children to-day. They are such a sweet group of people, sweet like Armando (above). Me and the landlord cooked brats and dogs on the grill and we had the perfunctory Lays (2 for six bucks) chips available with pickles, asparagus, and cooked veggies for the brats. These were real good Mennonite store sausages this time...i might have overcooked them cuz they seemed kind of dry but oh well. We had fun. Both brother-in-law and landlord share a love of playing music and hunting various four-legged mammals so there was good conversation all day. Sister got to spend a half hour on facebook and you'd think it was Christmas for her...kids jumped on the trampolene and shot water baloons into the blue with their launcher.
I'm thankful for family and friends.
First short week of summer school ends tomorrow; next week is only a two-day week, this is do-able.

Summer School starts tomorrow

and if I were a kid whose parents signed me up, I don't know if I could be happier. It'd be about the same as being told there was no Santa Claus AND the world is going to skip my next five birthdays. Yeah, just about the same.

To-day is Ernie Harwell Day, I'm listening to the birds outside sing and chirp and twistle and aint it grand? I have to remind myself of the chores i volunteered to do while my landlord is golfing at St. Ives: feed dog, water plants on deck, water plants in front yard, water plants in side yard, water plants in house, let dog run rampnt in yard (only in yard, not all through the neighbourhood, as is his want), and that's it, really.

Mostly sunny and warm. Tigers don't play to-day but start a tough road trip tomorrow: Mets, Braves, Twinkies. Then, I'm told, 20 out of 27 dates are at home. They've got a pretty good home record so far this year. Austin Jackson got some playing time yestreday at the end of the game.

I've been procrastinating on a number of issues and I'd like permission to go ahead and take care of a few things...
