On movies

Cats and Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore makes me laugh out loud. I have lived most of my life as either a cat or dog's person (often both) and find their facial expressions and comments so funny in this film.Thank you, Brad Peyton, for going so anti-hollywood by leaving out every asinine sexual reference, thank you.

Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Charles Laughton and Maureen O'hara is superb. Completed during "Hollywood's Greatest Year" (along with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and Wuthering Heights),  'tis a tale of Beauty and the Beast set in 15th century Paris. The final line of the film just floored me: Quasimodo, while watching the beautiful Esmeralda, whose life he saved, ride off into the sunset with her husband, inquires of the gargoyle he leans against: "Why was I not made of stone like thee?"  Brought me to tears.

Rainy windy Tuesday

A short school day to-day: a local transformer failed due to high winds causing power outages through town, particularly at Onekama School. Students were dismissed at 9:30; we, shortly thereafter.

Just aBSOLUTELY love seeing Brandon Inge get a huge base knock in a tight game...yahoooo!!!

Would love a pizza pizza pantastic right about now.

Church bells fascinate me...

The whole idea of large devices clanging in response to several pulls on a hefty braid of hemp, calling the townsfolks to gather ... for mass, for a funeral, for a wedding, ... nice.

Thief, by Third Day

I am a thief, I am a murderer
Walking up this lonely hill
What have I done? I don't remember
No one knows just how I feel
and I know that my time is coming soon.

It's been so long. Oh, such a long time
Since I've lived with peace and rest
Now I am here, my destination
guess things work for the best
and I know that my time is coming soon

Who is this man? This man beside me

They call the King of the Jews
They don't believe that He's the Messiah
But, somehow I know it's true.
And they laugh at Him in mockery,
and beat Him till he bleeds
They nail Him to the rugged cross,
and raise Him, they raise Him up next to me

My time has come, I'm slowly fading
I deserve what I receive

Jesus when You are in Your kingdom
Could You please remember me
and He looks at me still holding on
the tears fall from His eyes
He says I tell the truth
Today, you will live with Me in paradise
and I know that my time is coming soon
and I know paradise is coming soon.

U-Conn/Butler

Don't care.
I have just become a Leann Rimes fan, though.

I'll Never Find Another You

There’s a new world somewhere they call the Promised Land;
And I’ll be there someday if you will hold my hand;
I still need you there beside me, no matter what I do;
For I know I’ll never find another you.

There is always someone for each of us they say,
And you’ll be my someone, forever and a day;
I could search the whole world over, until my life is through,
But I know I’ll never find another you.

It’s a long, long journey, so stay by my side,
If I walk through a storm, you’ll be my guide,
Be my guide...
If they gave me a fortune, my treasure would be small;
I could lose it all tomorrow, and never mind at all;
But if I should lose your love, dear, I don’t know what I’d do,
For I know I’ll never find another you!

Then Hwin, though shaking all over, gave a strange little neigh, and trotted across to the Lion.
“Please,” she said, “you're so beautiful. You may eat me if you like. I'd sooner be eaten by you than fed by anyone else.”
“Dearest daughter,” said Aslan, planting a lion's kiss on her twitching, velvet nose, “I knew you would not be long in coming to me. Joy shall be yours.”

April has Come, ...

and the 2011 Season has begun!
Detroit opened in the Bronx, an instant classic already in the eyes (and mouths) of Those Who Know: Justin Verlander and his less than 1.0 spring ERA and the Thumpin Tigers against the pinstriped Yankees with Cy Young CC Sabathia on the hill. JV threw alot of pitches early but kept the Tigers in the game by allowing 3 runs through six innings of work. He seemed to be getting ahead in the count, but had trouble putting folks away like we would have liked him to (8 K, 4 BB, 3 ER = 4.5 ERA); in the end though, the bullpen didn't do its job. Phil Coke replaced JV in the 7th and immediately gave up the game-winning dinger to Curtis Granderson..
Trends to watch: We'll see if the tumultuous RISP continues from last year (1-7); runners LOB was also quite bad as I recall (6, yestreday).

Let go and let God

Words of wisdom from my beautiful bride this afternoon: "Let go and let God".

LORD of lords,
King of the Universe
Endless I AM,
First, Last, Ever-present,
Brightest and Best,
All-knowing,
True,
Right,
Peace,
Love,
...
what can I come with? What can I bring to this conversation?!? What can I possibly beg or coax from YOU?

You know all, now and forever. We are Yours.
Take us where You want us, do with us what You would.

Thank you for loving us so much, thank you for teaching us.

Amen

2:10 pm prep hour starts...

Ahhh, quiet, peace, ... breathe! ... reflect on the day:
what could i have said nicer to someone?
how could I have been more loving?
how could I have made a difference for good in a child's life?
Was I kind?
Almighty King of kings, pour YourSelf into me, that I might love as You love; at all times, and in all places. Your love is boundless, infinite. Use me as a vessel and pour Your love to others through me. Amen!

Lessons I learned again, to-day...

i) Be kind.

ii) Be kind.

iii) Be kind.

Thank you, Father, for your patience with me. I have been so stubborn, holding on to what I think is right...what did Ernie say???... He'd rather be kind than be right... Lord, help me remember this! Amen!

Happy 3 Weeks B-day, Joslin!!

She's all strapped in and ready to go!!

Michigan up 17-10 at the quarter mark of the game; I think MSU would have won alot more games if they could ever shoot the basketball...that Michigan zone is pretty tough to get through whether you can shoot or not!
