hot, hot, hot

I thought the nice man on public radio yestreday said it got up to 110 in Ypsilanti...the northwest winds to-day will help keep it near 90 and not a smideon higher...Cleaning the shed, yes, this is shed day I deem it so. Already I took my sweetie to work and shopped at Meijer's for good food. Last night we stopped after work in Whitmore Lake to watch the Tigers and had a fajita salad and a Tavern Burger which was hot, rare, and oh-so-delicious.
I must interject here. Does every karaoke night in Michigan have to be dominated by old, slow country songs which ruin dinner (both the actual food AND the conversation)??!!?? If not, is it just Livingston County?!? My wife, bless her heart, even encouraged me to do some Green Day just to break up the monotony, so to speak... Arrrrgggg.
Tigers at 7:10 tonight...go Justin!!!

Wonderful Wednesday!!

In the name Jesus I begin my day; I offer to You LORD all the joys, sorrows, trials and temptations, hugs and kisses, thoughts, words, deeds, ... every dish washed, dried, and put away to Your greater glory, every perennial watered with love to Your glory, every dog hair ball swept up to Your glory, every tuna sandwich devoured in Your name, every bill paid, every TCM movie watched, every cat litter clump scooped, every planter box created to-day, every job search, every wave to a neighbor,  ... may it all be part of a day that is really Yours, in which I exist to serve and love.

no more rhymes now, i mean it!

When Jackson gets hits, you know things are good
He's batting 300, just like we think he should.
When G-money lays a bunt, folks pay attention;
And shall I also not fail to mention...
Please, Delmon, Oh Delmon, it's surely no suprise
You'll hit so much better if you open your eyes!

Well glory we got some more rain yestreday...

...and it came without all the violence so often associated with a summer storm in these parts. It came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Somehow or other, it came just the same... sorry
Worked 10 hours yestreday at the plant stand and feel pretty good to-day (last night, however, was another story); already took the dog for a walk, cooked a grilled cheese sandwich (two, actually - the first ended up charred beyond eatability and in the trash), and wished my sweetie a wonderful day at work. Finished yestreday's sudoku (do you know soduko is an alternate spelling?), read Drew Sharp's opinion on Rick Porcello's profitability potential, and poured myself a diet mountain dew!
Fister goes tonight against the Pirates at 7:05; i'll have some tasty burgers ready for my Char-Broil Charcoal Grill Model 12301772 at about that time. (Mmmmmm...that is a tasty burger!!)
We also put a window air conditioner in the living room on the west wall and it has made a huge difference on these 90+ days I am here to tell you. Takes out so much of the humidity; sure helps you sleep good at night also.

Glory to God on this Fri-day
Guide us each, at work or play
Take away from each disdain and hate
And please help Fister find the plate

On Fathers Day...

I thank God for you, Dad!
I'm thankful for the games of catch we used to play in front of the house on Prevost, for the games of 'Rose Bowl Computerized' football we used to play at the table, and for our times of 'diving' and splashing in the backyard pool.
I'm thankful for the Tiger games you took us to see; I don't know how many we saw (it seems like millions), but I still remember vividly the white of the home whites against the green green grass and the blue blue seats of Tiger Stadium.
I'm thankful for the dirt-bike riding times, especially our West Branch trip when I ended up in the hospital.(-8
I'm thankful for all the fun we had playing hide and seek at your tile store on 8 Mile when Mom would bring us early to pick you up from work... inevitably we'd have six or seven hours to kill so we'd roam and explore to our hearts' content: dusty corners behind boxes of stacked peel-and-stick tile, the empty space behind the 40 foot rolls of carpet, always keeping in mind the menacing credo 'These things are beautiful to behold, but if you break them, we consider them sold.'
I'm thankful for every softball game we got to play together, wearing the gaudy maroon and gold and getting killed by Redford #2 at Rouge Park... ahh, life was good.
I'm thankful for the times we went to 8 Mile and Greenfield and shot my model rockets into the sky - we used the car battery for getting them off the ground until we found the remote push-button method...
I thank God for you, Dad.

All Through the Night

Sleep, my child, and peace attend thee
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping
Hill and dale in slumber sleeping
I my loving vigil keeping
All through the night

Hark, a solemn bell is ringing
Clear through the night
Thou, my love, art heavenward winging
Home through the night
Earthly dust from off thee shaken
Soul immortal shalt thou awaken
With thy last dim journey taken
Home through the night
Cute story about Marlboro Man and his young all-star catcher at http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2012/06/jim_leyland_alex_avila_poke_fu.html.

Home watching Turner Classic Movies because, as Roger Waters so aptly put it, I've 'got 13 channels of sh@! on the TV to choose from.' Not really, I like some old movies, but I like newer, uncut, uninterrupted movies better, and would be watching them (non-stop, probably) if we subscribed to such channels. I loathe commercials and editing of movies...AMC, for example speeds up some movies so there is more time for advertisements. Sickening.

I was looking on youtube for Dan Dickerson's call of Austin Jackson's homerun last night against the Cubbies but could only find older stuff, like from the first series this year against Boston: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlL0FfeLZBM, or remember this from 2006? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WV5oFj6zfI

So beautiful to-day

Oh so nice here in Whitmore Lake; the sun has been shining all day and the temps are comfortable 70's ... my sweetie and I have another Tiger date tonight!

Friday, June 8, 2012

home again...

Sitting at the kitchen counter with the Pet Shop Boys playing watching Otis make fun with anything that moves in the house (and even a few things that don't) thinking about the to-do list for to-day and reading posts about the Tigers inept hitting, defense, and pitching (and managing, and coaching, and general-managing...).
So good to be home with my sweet-ie, kit-ty, and dog-gie!

Read to-day that Leyland used to sing in a choir and at weddings and such...

Sudoku time!

St. Patrick's Breastplate Prayer

I bind unto myself today
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.

I bind this day to me for ever.
By power of faith, Christ's incarnation;
His baptism in the Jordan river;
His death on Cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spicèd tomb;
His riding up the heavenly way;
His coming at the day of doom;
*
I bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself the power
Of the great love of the cherubim;
The sweet 'well done' in judgment hour,
The service of the seraphim,
Confessors' faith, Apostles' word,
The Patriarchs' prayers, the Prophets' scrolls,
All good deeds done unto the Lord,
And purity of virgin souls.

I bind unto myself today
The virtues of the starlit heaven,
The glorious sun's life-giving ray,
The whiteness of the moon at even,
The flashing of the lightning free,
The whirling wind's tempestuous shocks,
The stable earth, the deep salt sea,
Around the old eternal rocks.

I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need.
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, His shield to ward,
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.

Against the demon snares of sin,
The vice that gives temptation force,
The natural lusts that war within,
The hostile men that mar my course;
Or few or many, far or nigh,
In every place and in all hours,
Against their fierce hostility,
I bind to me these holy powers.

Against all Satan's spells and wiles,
Against false words of heresy,
Against the knowledge that defiles,
Against the heart's idolatry,
Against the wizard's evil craft,
Against the death wound and the burning,
The choking wave and the poisoned shaft,
Protect me, Christ, till Thy returning.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.

homeward bound

done up here, heading home...
home, where my thought's escaping
home, where my musics' playing
home, where my love lies waiting silently for me
